Émile Gallé French Walnut and Fruitwood Marquetry Vitrine
This rare and unique French Art Nouveau vitrine by Émile Gallé has a frieze of carved moths across the top, and an elaborate marquetry scene of tall grass and falling leaves, caught in an invisible wind, sprayed across the front. Three of the four drawers have cast bronze pulls in the moth motif, complimenting the embellishments of this unique vitrine. The sides of the drawers are flanked by tall, curving, carved irises radiating from the feet. The inside back of the case features blooming irises in marquetry of equal intricacy.
