Mid-20th Century Platinum, Diamond and Ruby Bracelet

Created in the 1960s, this ruby and diamond bracelet is mounted in platinum. The finely articulated platinum form is designed as a tapering line of 44 marquise-cut diamonds (approximate total weight 13.40 carats) interspersed with 88 round-cut rubies (approximate total weight 6.15 carats). Made in a period when high standards of platinum handicraft still prevailed, this bracelet of matched, beautifully-cut marquise diamonds is punctuated by vivid red ruby accents to create a streamlined and elegant modern jewel.

Marquise-cut diamonds are a relatively unusual fancy shape, most appreciated for their elongating, flattering effects for the finger when first tried on the hand. It would have been a special project of some duration for a jeweler to assemble this long line of matched marquise-cut diamonds for this unusual bracelet. The graceful, attenuated shapes radiate white light, made all the more brilliant by contrast with the blood red rubies interspersed among the tips of the diamonds. Using form and color alone to create its dazzling effects, the bracelet is a fine example of high 60s design.
