Tiffany Studios New York "Peony" Table Lamp

A Tiffany Studios New York “Peony” leaded glass and bronze table lamp. The large domed shade is composed of brilliantly multi-hued peony blossoms in various stages of growth set against a mottled blue background which is highlighted by green stems and leaves. The shade features rippled, striated, textured and deeply mottled glass that together make a lovely artistic composition and sits atop a telescopic six-prong 'Ball' patinated bronze base with a cap.

In Victorian times, peonies represented bashfulness, since mischievous nymphs were said to hide in their magnificent petals. With this in mind, it is easy to imagine how the Tiffany Studios New York designer responsible for such a fabulous interplay of color and glass was able to come up with such a playful and multifaceted design.
