Rembrandt Bugatti "Girafe en train de boire" Bronze Sculpture
In "Girafe en train de boire" also known as "Giraffe Drinking" has captured a giraffe drinking at a watering hole, its cheeks puffed as it drinks. The sinews of its long legs are tense, yet the creature exudes delicate grace in every movement. Bugatti first encountered the giraffe at the Antwerp Zoo in Belgium in 1909, accompanied by his artist friend Cecil Howard. Struck by its majesty, Bugatti spent many a day sculpting the animal plein air, allowing him to observe the animal in all its many attitudes.

A descendant from a specimen from the London Zoo, giraffes resided in the Egyptian Temple, the zoo's oldest animal house. The giraffe, with its long neck and towering legs, approaches the watering hole cautiously. Its legs splay out to the sides in a wide stance, creating a stable base. To lower its head, the giraffe spreads its front legs further apart and bends its knees slightly, lowering its neck towards the water. This awkward yet graceful maneuver allows the giraffe to reach the water without losing its balance.
